Last year, Tabloid Watch wrote a post on why the tabloids love Wimbledon (I’ll give you a hint – it’s not because they just really bloody love tennis). The reason they love Wimbledon is that there’s really nothing better for a downmarket tabloid newspaper than the opportunity to publish lots of photographs of women running around in skimpy clothing.
And Wimbledon offers plenty of such opportunities.
A week after writing that post, Tabloid Watch wrote another, which drew attention to the amusing hypocrisy of the Daily Mail accusing the BBC of – wait for it – “voyeuristic” coverage of Wimbledon!
Therefore, it’s amusing to note that the first Mail article I’ve seen this year on Wimbledon should be this one:
Not at all simply another excuse to publish photos of an attractive women in a number of provocative poses… It’s articles like this that make one wonder whether or not they’ve accidentally navigated to The Sun’s website.
The article, which has been bashed out by the anonymous “Daily Mail Reporter”, opens by saying:
Her large chest guaranteed her attention…
Well, it certainly guaranteed her attention from the Mail!
Still, I guess we should be grateful that they’re back to letching over women, rather than five-year-old girls, eh?
